Deep Thoughts

Nothing planned, nothing special happening even though today is my birthday. I didn’t tell people, I didn’t even think about telling people as today was one of the ordinary days in my life.

“It is an amazing day” – I was thinking to myself while walking home from work. No, it wasn’t amazing because it was my birthday. It was amazing because life itself is amazing, and, as they say,every day above the ground is a good day.

So, as I was going home to spend my birthday alone, I was wondering about that special meal that I would have. Yes, a very funny thought crossed my mind – I have to think of it like it’s my last meal before the world ends.

To my amusement, I could not come up with anything that I loved so much that I would want to have as my last meal. So, I guess, I was about to go without a meal on my birthday. Isn’t that silly? All I needed to do was to think of something that I would enjoy. I went through isles in the grocery store (in my mind) thinking of all kinds of delicious possibilities but came up with nothing.

As I was giving up on my genius idea to make the most enjoyable meal for dinner, I decided that I could at least come up with something wonderful that could happen to make my birthday awesome. You know how people say – that was the best day ever?

Well, that was something that I could definitely come up with. Who can’t come up with awesome things to happen to them on a birthday or any other day?

And the moment I was about to come up with a list of things, I looked up. There was this girl who was passing by and she smiled at me. Believe it or not – that was the best thing that could have happened to me today. Somehow, this simple gesture reached so deep and touched me. I was glowing and I didn’t even know why…Just a simple smile, not an amazing meal, not a mind-blowing trip or a surprise party.  It was a smile of a stranger that made my day…
