Navratilova: My cancer battle
“I think anybody that survives the communist system, they’re pretty tough!” Navratilova told CNN. “And then being gay on top of that, that wasn’t helpful. As they say, that which does not kill you makes you stronger, so I am pretty strong.”
Every time we find out about somebody’s fight with cancer it makes us think and appreciate our health. Ignorance is bliss but to what extent? Cancer is not a joke. You can’t shake it off, you can’t ignore it and you can’t live with a thought that it will be everybody else but you. If it gets to celebrities, it can get to you.
I can’t stop thinking about how fragile one’s life is. One small thing can turn everything around. Straight or gay – cancer doesn’t discriminate. When cancer gets you, the world and its differences doesn’t mean anything. You start seeing life from a different perspective.
